In my daily work, I regularly create user-friendly documents to help our customers use our product effectively. But it’s just as essential to provide the same level of support to our valued partners and our in-house IT department. To make this happen, I suggest creating a complete “Product Requirements Document.” This document will be extremely valuable in ensuring smooth collaboration with our software developers.
It is a bridge between the product design team and the technology team.

In developer speak, a PRD is like a detailed guidebook for us. It’s a document that the tech team uses to understand exactly what the user wants the software to do. It’s just like how construction workers need a clear plan before they start building.
To put it simply, the PRD tells us what features the software should have and how it should work. It’s like a roadmap that keeps us on track during development, making sure we deliver what the user needs.
Comparing it to construction, it’s like the initial blueprint that helps everyone understand the project’s scope and requirements before diving into the actual design phase.
A PRD is like a roadmap that keeps everyone on the same page during the product development process. It ensures that the team delivers the exact features that fulfil the user’s requirements.
If you don’t explain your ideas to the developer with a handout document, you might end up with an app without a map API. To avoid these issues, you must create a PRD and hand it over to the software developer. This way, they will know precisely what you want, and they can build the app accordingly.

Additionally, the PRD is a dynamic document, open to updates based on feedback and improvements. It allows the development team to assess the feasibility of features, setting realistic expectations and preventing delays during development.
🧠 How to write Basic PRD (Product Requirement Document)
Every individual has a distinct approach and structure when writing a PRD. It doesn’t need to adhere to a specific, rigid format, as long as it conveys the required information effectively and clearly. The level of detail included in the PRD can be customized according to your preferences. In the following section, I will demonstrate my PRD writing process, emphasizing that I don’t stick to a fixed template. Instead, I continuously improve and adapt my PRD by learning and gathering more product information.

There were plenty of sample PRDs available on Google that I could refer to. Additionally, ChatGPT has been a great resource and helper for various problems and finishing up questions. I had written down a sample PRD, and during that time, I came across an Indian YouTuber named (Kingsidharth), whose channel provided valuable insights and helped me understand the concepts related to PRD.
