In this article, I will try to explain to you how you can earn while making your portfolio with no real client. I have done this practice so far, When I am a new bee in this field (I am still learning). It’s not a signal way to earn or making a portfolio you can find out your way, whatever you feel more compatible, I want to share my experience and that was pretty amazing.

So, I started the design when was 16, I was so fascinated by cartoons, animated movies for the time being, Although I often sketched some humans biological diagram and help out my little sister 9-grade Practical Journal letter on I got admission in some famous Multimedia Design institute in my local area but unfortunately, I couldn’t afford that fees so, I dropped out furthermore about my design journey I will share with you another article.
I have decided, I need to design something more valuable and create a source of income, I have talked to many local clients and did ask my social circle who needs some logo design and website but unfortunately, everyone wants to be free stuff. One day one of my friends talk about his design winning the contest, I asked him how it works how, i can earn money without any real client, He just gave me a little bit of orientation about one freelance website where you can participate in a design contest.
Right now there is so many design contest platform website where you can participate. I knew about these two websites which help to earn so many coins.
So I took a participate in multiple different contests in different design categories likewise Brochure, B card, Logo, Landing page till 8 months, Unfortunately did not win any contest i failed, again and again, some time, ops not some time often time contest holder eliminate my design or kick me out of the contest.

I am lucky, I tried and gradually my work improve day by day and that help to win some contest with a good amount of money on that time and did realize i understand or do some many things which I have never done before, for example, understand the client brief, fast searching those things which, I want, understand the keywords game in searching, found so many resources which often helps me increase my pace in work, convert the contest holder into a real client for future projects and know the design community platform where many great designers showcase their work.
These platforms will help you to expand your design horizon, teach you through their designers work, you can ask through comments of your design, take some feedback to communicate with different designers finding a job, projects and the core part is you can show your work. You don’t need to worry about your work, you just need to give your best shot and upload your design projects for feedback
Share your thoughts and your process and your work, online, for free. You don’t need to be an expert to share your work — beginners can easily help other beginners. Whenever I had a participant in some selective design contest, I read the description carefully and understand the client needs and goals. I do analyze my self, Am I good for this contest? Am i able to fulfil his requirement if yes! then jump in to contest.
Now i will try to explain to you how you can grow your build design portfolio with zero clients in so simple method. Maybe i can explain lol
- Play a Contest and select 1 or more than 2 platform and give them proper time like a job
- If you did not win the contest don’t worry at all try again and for the rest of the design, you can upload it on your design account on Instagram or dribbble.
- If you won the contest ask your client to more project for future work or ask for a referral but don’t be greedy.
- Upload your design on Behance with beautiful presentable along with little detail about this design start to end process
